Places to Travel for Watches - Geneva

In a new series we are officially launching today, we will be discussing places to travel that present the opportunity to explore ones passion for watches. There are many places around the world that have connections with watchmaking, but no places has the type of deep roots that Geneva does. So as our inaugural episode, Geneva will be our first place to explore!

Geneva is located in the southwest, French speaking part of Switzerland where the Rhine River exits Lake Geneva. There are approximately 500,000 residence who live in Geneva. Geneva has had many accolades occur in this Swiss city; the first wrist watch ever produced, the first quartz watch, the first water-resistant watch, the thinnest, smallest, the list goes on for what watches have emerged from this city.

The first reason why Geneva is a great place to visit is many watch companies are headquartered here. Patek Philippe, Rolex, Piaget, Baume et Mercier, Frederique Constant and Vacheron Constantin are but a few. Plan-les-Ouates is as town outside of Geneva where many of this companies are located. Richmond Group is also based in Geneva. Having so many companies here would allow you to visit the manufactures and learn about their history and operations.

Next, many watch events take place in this beautiful Swiss city. SIHH, one of the watch trade shows takes place here. GPHG, the Oscars of watchmaking also takes place here. Furthermore, there are many auctions that take place in Geneva so if one is interested in the vintage market, this is a great place to explore.

Lastly, there are countless amounts of retails stores that one can go to and experience the modern lines each company has to offer. Geneva is a city that one can really immerse oneself in the culture and heritage of Switzerland, but also the passion we have for watches.
