Vacheron Constantin Is Using Blockchain Technology
With the rise of blockchain technology, companies are being forced to incorporate it into their day-to-day business processes. For those of you who do not know, blockchain is a ledger where transactions can occur and be maintained in a permanent and verified manner. It is the technology behind cryto-currencies like Bitcoin.
Vacheron Constantin, one of the three holy trinity watch companies along with Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet, has decided to utilize blockchain technology when they sell their vintage wrist watches. It will allow collectors to get digital certificates of authenticity but also track all the necessary information like date of production, movement type and number, year of purchase and watch serial number to name a few.
It is great to see watch companies move with the times and utilize emerging technologies like blockchain. I believe it will take some time before other companies adopt the technology, but once proven, this technology will be invaluable to collectors and watch houses alike.
Enjoy!
