Where to Buy Vintage Watches

If one is just getting into watch collecting, an important thing to know is where to buy vintage watches from. It is important to get watches from quality sources so that you are happy with your purchases. Your purchase will ultimately be part of your collection that hopefully will be part of your story.

There are two main places to go for your watch purchases - live auctions and retailers/online retailers. There are obviously benefits and drawbacks of each so it is up to you which outlet to choose. Live auctions allow you to be immersed in the watch collecting community. You will meet many people and learn so much from the individuals you encounter at live auctions. If you are attending auctions like Phillips and Christie’s, you will also be able to boast verification of authenticity for the watches you purchase. These watches typically command a premium because of the event, but security is definitely worth the cost.

Retailers/online retailers can have many of the same positives especially if they are reputable and have been a part of the watch industry for a long time. Often times the watches are priced slightly lower in comparison to live auctions, but it really comes down to trusting the dealer. We break this category down deeper in our video, so have a watch the get more details.

Enjoy!
