Reacting to the $700,000 Rolex Daytona that was Bought for $375

In the last week, a video from Antique Roadshow was released that showed a US Air Force veteran bring in his Rolex Daytona that he purchased in 1974 for $375. What was it valued at? between $500,000-$700,000.

The watch in question is the Rolex Oyster Cosmograph Reference 6263, ‘Paul Newman’ Daytona. This watch is one of the most desired watches in watch collecting today. The owner of the watch, a US Air Force veteran, purchased it during his time overseas. And get this - he simply did not wear it. This reference, and this variation of the reference is extremely hard to find. But what makes it even more special is that this watch is the complete package. The owner has the original box, outer box, warranty certificate, original purchase receipts and Rolex booklets. The watch even has the original reference sticker on the caseback of the watch. This is one of those gems that you simply do not find anymore.

We love this watch for a few reasons. Primarily, its story is exactly what we like about this amazing hobby. It really has a special place in his life and one can trace exactly where it was. He certainly took care of his watch and now his watch will take care of him in the later years of his life.

Enjoy!
