Common Watch Questions: What Omega Watch Should I Buy?

Omega is a brand that many first time watch enthusiasts stumble upon. They have an excellent history of creating extremely beautiful and high quality watches. After a collectors asked us what watch they should buy, to which I replied '“take a look at Omega”, they then asked me which Omega?

In order to help frame my answer, we will be using the Omega Trilogy Set. This set of watches was released by Omega at Baselworld in 2017, and included re-editions of three watches - the Speedmaster, Seamaster and Railmaster. These watches were originally released in 1957 which is where this trilogy set takes it’s inspiration. The watches were sold as a set, but you could also purchase them individual.

The Speedmaster would be a very popular choice. It obviously has a huge significance historically with Space Travel. Many collectors believe this watch to be one of the best watches you can own. The Seamaster is a great choice too - it was originally released to compete with the Rolex Submariner and Blancpain Fifty Fathoms.

I personally would go with the Railmaster, as it is a bit less known and widely worn by those who are looking to purchase one of these watches. As with all three of the watches, the dials have a beautiful ‘faux-patina’ to them, which is either loved or hated by collectors but I think the Railmaster is the most subtle. Which ever one you choose, this is a good place to start.

Enjoy!
