Watches in The Departures Magazine: The Art Design Culture Issue, May/June 2020
The May/June issue of The Departures focuses on art, design and culture and their influences on our day-to-day life. Not only did this episode have very interesting commentary on these three elements in the modern era, they had some pretty nice watches in the magazine too.
The first watch was from none other than Rolex. They were advertising their 18k white gold Day-date with an incredible green dial. The roman numerals and fluted bezel really scream classic, and the green dial is unique - not something you see every day. The next watch was from Panarai, out of their Laboratorio Di Idee - the Luna Rossa AC75. We have seen this watch in other issues of Departures. The watch was made for the Luna Rossa sailing team who are a part of the America’s Cup. Cool fact - the watch is made of the same material as the boat!
The magazine also featured a Chopard L’heure Du Diamant. The watch is covered in diamonds and has a very elegant flair to it. The sunburst inner dial really captures your eye - it is on the more expensive side ($40,000) but if you can afford it, you should go for it! Richard Mille continued to make an appearance with the RM67 and RM07. the RM67, known as the extra flat is fairly innovative. Richard Mille watches are generally a bit larger, but this watch they tried to create a thinner profile for the watch. From what we can tell, it sits very nicely on ones wrist.
Blancpain and Omega made appearances on the same page with the Villeret Complete Calendar and the Ladymatic. The Blancpain has a very simple yet effective dial configuration. You really cannot take your eye off of the curved date hand. Running on the in-house caliber 6654 its a complete calendar one should consider. The Ladymatic is such a cool watch with a mother of pearl dial and co-axial movement. Many watch companies prefer to use quartz movements in ladies watches, but it is great that Omega realized ladies love watches too! The co-axial caliber 8520 is something that a lady can enjoy.
The last two watches were from Breguet and Audemars Piguet. The Breguet that was featured was the Marine Equation of Time 5887. This Breguet takes its inspiration from Abraham-Louis Breguet’s first equation of time pocket watch. The watch has the equation of time, perpetual calendar and tourbillon movement - what a combination!
