Watches Released at Watches and Wonders 2020
Watches and Wonders started on April 25th and is taking place virtually due to the shutdown of most countries and travel. Watch companies released their watches through livestreams and wow, were there some of the many beautiful pieces.
Laurent Ferrier released a beautiful Tourbillon in the typical steal sports watch shape of watches like the Nautilus and Royal Oak. The watch has golden yellow hour markers and hands and a dark blue faded dial. When you flip the 44mm watch over you see this incredibly finish Tourbillon movement staring back at you. The watch is in limited quantities so get your hands on one of the twelve that were produced. Another incredibly innovative watch was from Piaget, their Altiplano Ultimate Concept, which at 2mm thickness, is the worlds thinnest mechanical watch. The watch features an extrodinarily thin movement in the caliber 9P. The dial is relatively complex, with the the movement on display. One can see the mainspring and balance wheel while the time is at 12 o’clock in a smaller dial.
Vacheron Constantin came in full force with two variations on their perpetual calendar complications. The first is ultra-thin skeleton dial Overseas perpetual calendar. Being able to see the movement on your watch really gives you a deeper appreciation for the craftsmanship it took to create. And as always, Vacheron Constantin executed with perfection. Their second variation on the Overseas perpetual calendar is a blue dial version. The blue dial Overseas is answering the demand by consumers for blue dial watches. They have become extremely popular and the deep blue of this watch is spectacular.
Vacheron Constantin also released the Les Cabinotiers Astronomical Striking Grand Complication – Ode to Music. To be honest, it’s hard to put in writing how incredible this watch is. The watch is Vacheron flexing their watchmaking might and showing the world what they are capable of. Check out our video below to hear more about it. A Lange & Söhne also partook in some new releases, debuting their Odysseus watch in white gold. There was some controversy with the Odysseus, but expanding the metals it comes in is an interesting direction to take the watch.
Speake-Marin released a cool set of openworked flying tourbillons that come in titanium. They are the same watch, but in two different sizes, 38mm and 42mm. The watch really does no have a dial because it is openworked so you can see a beautiful balance wheel, mainspring case and microrotor. It really is a beautifully modern looking watch. Lastly, Hermès released their very popular rendition on the moonphase complication, the Arceau L’Heure De La Lune in different dial colours. The colours include Lapis Lazuli, Blue Pearl stone, Lunar meteorite, Black Sahara meteorite, or Martian meteorite, with mother-of-pearl moons and lacquered counters.
Enjoy!
