MB&F: the First Fifteen Years, a Catalogue Raisonné

Books about watches can grow your understanding about how watches work, their uses and stories about how they were used by famous adventures, actors or even friends. They can also do an incredible job at documenting the history of a brand.

A catalogue raisonné is a comprehensive, annotated listing of all the known works of an artist that includes all the details of each work. Relatively common in the art world, it had never been done for a watch brand; a world first in the watchmaking industry!

The MB&F Catalogue Raisonné is published by renowned publishing house Editions de La Martinière and distributed by Abrams. It begins with 30 pages about the genesis and history of MB&F written by journalist and watch expert Suzanne Wong. The book is then divided into chapters, documenting the Horological Machines, Legacy Machines, and Co-creations that have all been meticulously researched and documented by watch expert William Massena, working closely with the MB&F team.

"MB&F: the First Fifteen Years" is a Catalogue Raisonné documenting every single timepiece produced by MB&F from 2005 to 2020, including prototypes and pieces that have never been announced before: 160 product variations with matching photograph, model name, reference number, materials, years in production, and the exact quantity produced.

This special edition, presented in a bespoke protective box made of the same high-density foam used to package MB&F timepieces, is exclusive to MB&F and its partners and limited to 1,500 books.

The book really was a pleasure to read through. Not only can one discover versions of one of MB&F’s pieces one might not have known, the detailed pictures and descriptions immerses the reader into what makes MB&F special.

The book can be found here.

Enjoy!
