One of the Best Vintage Patek Philippe Watches, Rare Reference 2594

Vintage Patek Philippe is obviously an extremely desired and collectable niche in watch collection. Patek Philippe is regarded as being above all the rest when it comes to classical watchmaking. Many of the manufactures watches have sold for record prices at auction because of how attractive this part of watch collecting is. Well, we were lucky enough to get our hands on this incredible reference 2594.

This reference 2594 from Patek Philippe was manufactured in the late 1960’s. Obviously at first glance, the first thing you notice is the very unique case shape. Similar to the reference 2251 and 2552, the case shape is described by many as “Disco Volante” - Italian for "saucer". The overall case is 32mm in diameter with a lug width of 16mm so definitely fits the bill if one is looking for a dress watch. The case is 18k gold and really hits home well with the white, creamy dial of this watch.

A big feature of this reference is the diversity in case metals and design on what we will describe as the ‘bezel’ of the watch, even though it is just the outside edges of the case. This reference was produced in white gold, pink gold, and we believe a few versions were made in platinum. The bezels of these references ranged from smooth polished finishes to this version which features a milled brushed and polished finish. It reminds one of the turn-o-graph bezels on some Rolex models but obviously not as extreme.

One of the biggest parts that makes this watch incredible is the movement. This watch encases the Patek in-house 23-300 movement. It is know as being one of the all time best hand-wound 10 ligne movements. It features an overcoil hairspring and gyromax balance which is not found in any other 10 ligne movement from the manufacture. To put it simply, the combination of the overcoil hairspring and gyromax balance allows for more consistent oscillations of the balance wheel which means much more accurate time keeping.

If it hasn’t hit you yet, this is a serious watch. It is a rare reference that is super collectable because of its case shape and has one of the best movements ever produced by the watch manufacture. On a personal note, when I put this on my wrist, it was the first watch in a while that really blew me away. It’s different, rare, in excellent condition and runs amazingly. And all that in a perfectly fitting dress watch. Not much more one can ask for.

The watch is available on our store here.

Enjoy!
