The Tudor Black Bay Ceramic

Tudor has really focused on building out their Black Bay line of watches this year. At Watches and Wonders, they released two very interesting Black Bays in 925 Silver and 18k gold, case metals we had not seen thus far from Tudor. They have now announced a new Black Bay to add to the collection of interesting case metals - a Tudor made completely from ceramic, the reference 79210CNU. It also has some subtle changes that make this watch even more worth taking a look at.

The 41mm case and bezel insert of this watch are made completely of ceramic and a matte finish to it. The bezel is finished with a PVD finish which give this watch a similar aesthetic feel to the Omega Dark Side of the Moon. If you look closer at the dial, you see the Tudor signature towards 12 o’clock and “Black Bay” and “Master Chronometer” written towards 6 o’clock. This is the first time Black Bay has been written on the dial, a pretty interesting move by Tudor. The new in-house movement, the caliber MT5602-1U, has been certified by METAS, the Swiss Federal Institute Of Metrology located in Bern, Switzerland. To be METAS certified, the watch has to be pass many tests, including being COSC certified and being Swiss Made. The movement is also finished with an black colour that can be seen through the case-back of the watch.

Tudor has been criticized for their catalogue being heavily packed with Black Bay’s, but it is nice to see the manufacture experimenting with new case metals and pushing the limits of the movements they create.

Enjoy!
