Tudor Chronographs and Black Bays, Watches and Wonders 2021

Tudor has been a fan favourite for many years now so watch enthusiasts were definitely watching with bated breath for the releases from the manufacture. Tudor iterated on their already desirable designs and released some very interesting watches iterations on their main watch lines.

This year, Tudor decided to relaunch their Black Bay Chronograph line with two panda chronographs, reference 79360N. The first thing that really comes to mind when you see these two watches are ‘Paul Newman Daytona’. The two chronographs have dial, case and bezel design elements that remind one of vintage Daytona’s. With two sub-dials in black or white, depending on the colour dial one decides to get, the chronographs have everything an enthusiast would want. The red text and end of the chronograph hand really pop against the white and black motif. At 41mm the watch is seemly wearable and running on the caliber MT5813 from Tudor, it is pretty hard to beat at the price-point.

Next, Tudor released a pair of Black Bay dive watches, this time using case metals they have never used previously. The first is in 18k yellow gold, a metal that seems strange on a dive watch, but has most definitely been used by other brands. The 18k yellow gold case is paired nicely with a green dial and bezel which really mesh so well together. The black bay case has had some small upgrades, but nothing crazy that would change the overall look of this watch. The other Black Bay is cased in 925 Silver, an alloy that is proprietary to Tudor. This is a pretty crazy move especially with not many modern companies using this metal for a dive watch which will probably be put through its paces quite a bit. This Black Bay is paired with a taupe dial and bezel which I have to say looks phenomenal. Both of these watches run on the Tudor caliber MT5400 which can be seen through a display case-back as well. It is a fairly simple looking movement with limited finishing, but incredible architecture.

These watches are a great step forward for the brand and an exciting look at what is to come.

Enjoy!
