Watchonista Partner with Ebay

Just weeks after Hodinkee announced their acquisition of Crown & Caliber, Watchonista has announced that they will be partnering with Ebay. This move is another big partnership between two very large and influential companies in the watch industry.

Watchonista is one of the leading watch journalism companies. They specialize in the content creation sphere of watches, and produce high quality articles on their website and have a great Instagram too. Ebay is an online auction platform that has become quite a hot spot for watch trading and sell. Many people have been skeptical over the last few years to dive into buying watches on Ebay. Being that the watches sold are from private individuals and not institutions, its anyone’s guess what quality and condition your potential next purchase will be in. Ebay has recently started an authentication process for watches above a certain dollar amount which has definitely increased consumers trust in watches they buy from Ebay. This partnership may be another move to stamp their place in the watch industry as a reputable place to sell watches.

In Watchonista’s announcement, they stood buy not wanting to sell any watches and that they would produce independent watch content for Ebay. It will be interesting to see how the relationship works as they will be creating watch content around a platform that is made up of private sellers. It will be interesting to see how, if at all, their journalism changes with the brands and models that they cover. It will also be interesting to see how their interests will be put aside from a very consumer-driven business like Ebay.

Enjoy!
