The Breguet Classique 7137
Many watch companies have taken inspiration from wrist watches that they created in the past in order to design watches for today. Breguet decided to take one of their classical pocket watch designs, and put it on our wrists.
The Breguet Classique 7137 takes its inspiration from their famous pocket watch, Perpetuelle No.5, and finishing techniques from their watches from 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. Breguet was founded in 1775 by Abraham Louis Breguet and since 1999 has been a part of the Swatch Group. Breguet is known for creating a wide array of extremely significant watches, including the first tourbillon in 1801 and the first wrist watch in 1810.
This watch is an great example of the quality of watch Breguet is capable of making. At 39mm in diameter, the watch is extremely wearable and comes in white or rose gold with blue or silver/gold dial. The watch features the time, moonphase and age indicator, date and power reserve complications. These are the complications that are also found in the Perpetuelle No.5 pocket watch. The automatic caliber 502.3 can be seen through the display case-back of the watch. The movement is quite simple looking, extremely compact and thin. With 45 hours of power reserve and being as thin as it is, it really shows its strength as a dress watch.
Being inspired by a pocket watch is very unique, and more companies should consider their unique designs they implemented in pocket watches as possibilities for their wrist watches today. Not only does it pay homage to their heritage of watchmaking and design, but they also just look really great on the wrist.
Enjoy!
