  1. What brand do you like?

At the end of the day, you have to buy something that you know you will enjoy seeing on your wrist. Find a brand that speaks to you and that you think you will enjoy every single time you put their watch on your wrist.

  2. What is available?

While the market is pretty big, not everything is currently available. Check out vintage watch dealers, forums and auction houses to see if something you like is fairly available. Or, see if it is available in whatever situation you are in. Who knows, maybe you could be a Patek Philippe 1518 collection!

  3. How much information is available about your watch/brand?

Find a brand that has a lot of information readily available for their collectors. With more information available, the search for your vintage watches can be even more exciting. Also, you can use that information to arm yourself appropriately when you decide to pull the trigger on a watch.

  4. What communities are available?

The communities that are formed from this hobby are often times the best part about watch collecting. They will enjoy the watches you collect with you, and provide really great insight into things you may not have thought about. You can join a community, or start one yourself.

Enjoy!
