Gift Ideas for a Watch Lover, What to Buy for Your Watch Friend
2022 is coming to a close and so it is time to pause, get together with friends and family and enjoy each others company. It is also a moment to reflect upon all that has been accomplished in the last twelve months and what is to come in 2023. This also is the time for gift giving, and so what if you love watches? Or you know your friend does? There are some super common examples of gifts, but also some that may be a bit different. We will keep this list brand-agnostic, but will give some suggestions in our video!
A Watch
Alright, this one might be very obvious. But, it also can be exceptionally challenging to do this well. Collectors are extremely particular with the watches they like. And you can definitely mess this gift up by getting them something that they really don’t like. But, if you know them well enough to know what they are looking for, adding a watch to their collection can certainly be a way to surprise them over the holidays. But, you can also go for a different type of mechanical time keeper. If your recipient likes vintage watches, turning to something like a pocket watch can be a fairly cool gift as well!
Mechanical Objects
This gift idea really is for those who like vintage watches, but there are some really cool mechanical timekeeping objects that can be found on the market. Recently, there was a walking stick that had a watch that was placed in the handle that was floating around Instagram. You can even find rings that have watches in them. You will need to be careful with condition, but could be an interesting way of expanding the mechanical pieces your recipient has.
Watch Strap
Not to say the same thing over and over because I am sure by now tons of people have suggested watch straps as a gift. But, a collector can never have enough of them. Be sure to buy high quality straps - high quality leather will let your gift last a longer period of time. Bracelets can also be a fun alternative; something like a mesh bracelet can give a watch a completely different feel.
Watch Roll
Collectors are exactly that, a collector. A watch roll can be a great way to store your watches, especially if you are travelling or going to watch enthusiast meet-ups. Similarly to straps, ensure that the roll is of high quality for the longevity of the gift.
Watch Book
Collectors are also focused (or they should be) on the pursuit of knowledge related to their favourite watches. Watch books are a great way for them to learn about a brand, model, complication or era of watchmaking that they like. It will also help them to discover what comes next in their watch collecting journey.
Watch Art
There are many artists that have created artworks inspired by watches. It could be as simply as a picture of their favourite models, or an artists that tried to capture time in some way through illustrations. A piece of art can be hung up and enjoyed year round in someone’s home. Similarly to buying the individual a watch though, know their taste before passing go.
Mechanical Art
Watch collectors are often mesmerized by how mechanical parts all work together to give us time. There are some artists that don’t create watches, per-se, but may create art out of watch parts. These can be on the pricier side, but if you do a quick google search for ‘art made out of watch parts’, everything from shoes to motorcycles can be found.
Movement Cufflinks
Seeing a watch movement can a collectors favourite part of collecting. No wonder brands released display case-backs. Now, there may be fewer people who wear shirts that require cufflinks, but if your recipient has to pull out a tuxedo and is in the need of cufflinks, why not have some with a watch movement in them.
Enjoy!
