New Speedmaster Anyone? The New 3861 Omega Speedmaster

New Speedmaster Anyone? The New 3861 Omega Speedmaster

Omega has released a new version of their famous Omega Speedmaster. The watch takes a lot from the outgoing 1861 Speedmaster with some subtle differences that are taken from the vintage Speedmasters. Omega released both a Hesalite and Sapphire version of this watch, which definitely pleases the collectors market.

The Hesalite version of the 3861 has a noticeable steeped dial taken from the vintage Speedmasters that many collectors love. Another difference with this version is the Omega logo is painted instead of applied and the seconds track has been adjusted slightly compared to the previous version. The bezel has a subtle difference, with lighter font and a dot over 90 which again, is from vintage versions of this watch. These differences, no matter how subtle, can be very important to collectors. The case itself is slight thinner at about 13.5mm and has a stainless steel caseback meaning the co-axial movement can not be seen by its wearer.

The Sapphire version of this watch has many of the same design elements as the Hesalite version, but instead of a painted logo it has an applied Omega logo at 12 o’clock. Similar to the Hesalite version, it has a steeped dial, new seconds track, dot over 90 on it’s bezel with lighter font. The main difference with the sapphire version is that it features a display caseback where one can see the incredible 3861 movement and it’s finishing. it also has a slightly difference bracelet to the hesalite.

The subtle differences between this watch and the previous 1861 version do make this watch feel like something new. While most Speedmasters look similar, the upgraded movement, case and bracelet design, and dial subtleties were effective. An exciting additional to the history of the Omega Speedmaster line.

Enjoy!
