The Omega Speedmaster 321 Canopus Gold that costs $81,000
To celebrate 65 years of the Speedmaster, Omega has released an interesting take on their infamous watch. Of course 65 years is a big milestone, so pulling out something new is certainly a good way to mark the occasion. Well, an 18k white gold alloy is a good place to land for the well established Omega.
Omega has decided to create Canopus gold and construct their case for this Omega Speedmaster out of it. Canopus gold is an 18k white gold alloy with platinum, rhodium, and palladium. Along with the case, they used the overall design of their famous vintage CK2915-1 Speedmaster to construct this watch. This design was already being used in the Speedmaster 1957, with the broad arrow hours hand being a standout compared to the other Omega Speedmaster in their lineup.
There are some slight difference with this version compared to the 1957 - the dial is made of black onyx and has the typical applied hour markets and Omega that are PVD-treated with Canopus gold. The hands are made of 18k white gold. The bezel features a tachymeter scale and made of Canopus gold as well with an enamel treatment to their scale. The watch features a display caseback where one can see the infamous 321 movement.
While $81,000 is a significant amount of money for this watch, this is a new case metal for the Speedmaster which elevates this watch to be compared to many other watches priced similarly. The watch is truly for the die-hard Speedmaster fans who are looking to round out their collection with this elevation Omega has created for this version.
Enjoy!
