Patek Philippe Nautilus, Perpetual Calendars and Colourful Dials, Watches and Wonders 2021
Patek Philippe released a group of watches that vary from simple changes to very impressive movement manufacturing. The watches certainly garnered some eyes on social media and the watches are already listed for way above asking on the market. Like many companies, Patek Philippe focused on dial colours to attract potential buyers and keep the collectability of their watches high.
A very popular release was the Patek Philippe reference 5711 in steel with a very interesting olive green dial. The 5711 is everything anyone would want in a steel sports watch, and by mixing it up with a green dial, this watch is bound to be collectible. The watch is your standard 5711, running on the Patek caliber 26-330. The green dial is certainly striking, many companies have now added this colour to their line up of watches this year. The past few years blue dials have been the rage, maybe green is the new colour? There were two version of this watch, one with baguette diamonds on the bezel of this watch. Some people criticized this version of the watch, putting diamonds and a steel watch but if there is one thing for sure, these will sell quickly. On Chrono24, these watches are already listed for over a quarter of a million dollars.
The next watch is the Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Ref. 4947 which competes with other steel cased blue dial watches that many large manufactures have released. The 38mm watch is the perfect size and coming on a steel bracelet, gives this watch a much sportier feel. What stands out about this watch is the interesting linen-looking dial and font of the applied hour markers. Of course when you turn over the watch you see the beautiful caliber 324 S QA LU automatic watch with the typical gold winding rotor. The watch is an a-typical perpetual calendar that really stands out in their line up.
Arguably their best release this year, Patek Philippe released the reference 5236P which is Patek’s first in-line perpetual calendar wristwatch. An in-line calendar perpetual calendar is where the date complications are all in one row, so it can be read seamlessly by the wearer. Their first in-line watch was the P-1450 pocket watch from 1972. In very modern Patek style, this watch features an incredible blue dial and 41mm platinum case. The watch is running on a new movement from Patek, the caliber 31-260 PS QL movement which brings the date of the watch in one line on the dial, stating the day of the week, day of the month and month just below 12 o’clock. The movement has an incredible steel-tone micro-rotor which is a joy to see. Not only is this watch incredibly well manufactured and finished, its by far one of the most interesting looking perpetual calendars out there right now.
The last release from Patek Philippe was a set of Calatrava ‘Clous de Paris’ reference 6119’s. The main upgrade for these watches was the in-house movement, the 30-255 which is replacing the pervious hand-wound caliber 215 which has been used for some time by the manufacture. The watches come in white gold and rose gold, which black or silver dials. Of course there is display case-backs which lets one see the incredibly constructed movement. There is a different feel to the curves of the large bridges for the two mainsprings of this watch. The bezel of this watch has the hobnail finishing pattern to it which gives this watch a real dressy feel to them. A wonderful entry point into modern Patek Philippe collecting.
Enjoy!
