Is the Swiss Watch Industry Boring? Lack of Innovation?

Is the Swiss Watch Industry Boring? Lack of Innovation?

Over the past 20 years, we have seen many Swiss watch companies such as Omega and Rolex come out with reissues of watches. The problem we see is that it seems to be all they are doing. There is a lot of innovative designs coming from many watch manufacturers, but is it happening at a fast enough pace? From a business perspective, it makes sense to continue to design and sell watches that customers have shown an interest in and a desire to own. But will our generation in the history of horology simply be known for redoing what worked in the past?

The independent watch companies are who are truly innovating both technically with the movements of the watches they create, but also with the design. Max Busser from MB&F said in an interview that he felt he was creating watches for clients, and not what he enjoyed which is why he started his company! Hopefully more companies decide to run an innovative lab along-side their models that have been tried and tested.

Enjoy!
