The MB&F Horological Machine 10

As with every MB&F watch that is released, the new Horological Machine is extremely unique. Nicknamed ‘Bulldog’, the HM 10 takes its inspiration from our canine friends, specifically from bulldogs. According to Max Büsser, the founder of MB&F, he was travelling in Asian in 2015 when the design of the watch hit him. Being an avid dog person, the watch resembles a dog down to bone.

The HM 10 was released in two case metals - red gold or titanium and features four lugs that resemble the legs of the dog. In the domed crystal at the front of the watch there are two aluminum time displays that are the eyes of the dog. On top of the eyes is the iconic MB&F flying balance wheel that is the brain of the dog. Towards the back of the watch are the crowns, or the studded collar of the dog. Even more innovative is what was done with the power reserve indicator - on the underside of the watch are jaws that open and close as the power reserve increases and decreases.

The case itself measures 54mm which is a rather long watch. The watch features a manual wind movement designed by none other than Eric Giroud who has collaborated with MB&F on many of their watches. The movement is made up of 301 components manufactured in-house which hour, minute and power reserve complications. If you turn the watch over, the quote “forget the dog, beware of the owner” is inscribed calling to mind the fact that the ultimate existence of a dog is in service of another.

It is definitely a unique, yet polarizing watch. On our Instagram we conducted a poll and round that it was split almost perfectly at 50/50 of who likes the watch and who would pass on it. It is most certainly an example of simply having fun with watchmaking and coming up with innovative ways to design a watch and display watch complications.

Enjoy!
