The MB&F Horological Machine 6

The MB&F Horological Machine 6

The MB&F HM6 was yet another crazy invention with so much appeal from Max Büsser and the his watchmaking friends. The HM6 was released in 2014 and was inspired by the Japanese anime series from the 70’s and 80’s called Capitaine Flam, or Captain Future in English. Captain Future had a spaceship called Comet that had two spheres connected by a tube. This is exactly what Max decided to recreate with the HM6 but connected two spaceships.

The watch has a very distinct design to it with four spheres, surrounding a tourbillon in the center of the watch. The two spheres in the front of the watch display the hours and minutes while the two in the back are spinning turbines that regulate the escapement of the watch. What is even cooler is the tourbillon in the center of the watch has a retractable shield that can be opened and closed with one of the watches crowns.

The watch measures 50mm in diameter and the 3D movement was developed and created by MB&F and watchmaker David Candaux. The movement features a 72 hour power reserve. The case comes in various metals: The HM6 Ti is in titanium, HM6 RT is in red gold and titanium, HM6 SV is in sapphire and red gold or platinum, Alien Nation is in Sapphire and white gold and FE (Final Edition) is in stainless steel.

As per usual, the HM6 is a totally unique looking watch with incredible craftsmanship that went into creating the mechanism behind the watch. While at 50mm it sits rather large on the wrist, the watch truly represents MB&F’s slogan that these creations are not watches, they are pieces of kinetic art.
