The MB&F Horological Machine 7
The MB&F HM 7, nicknamed Aquapod, was released in January of 2017 and was MB&F’s first aquatic-inspired release. The watch takes it inspiration from the jellyfish - an animal the Max Büsser had a tough encounter with prior to designing the watch.
The watch features a 60-second flying tourbillon placed under a dome of sapphire, which Max describes as the brains of the watch/jellyfish. Time indicators circle the outside of the watch case. Similarly to the jellyfish, when you flip the watch over, there is a tentacle-like automatic winding rotor that glows in the dark. The hours and minutes numerals as well as the inside of the movement glow in the dark too.
The HM7 comes in various case metals; grade 5 titanium, 18k 5N and red gold, and in platinum. The spherical case construction was the first time MB&F produced a completely round watch for their Horological Machine line of watches. They had produced round-cased watches for their Legacy Machine line. The watch measures 54mm in diameter which is a rather large watch but the reception for this watch at launch was that it fit quite well for such a behemoth.
The movement of the features vertical architecture and was developed in-house with the assistance by Eric Giroud who helped the vision of the Aquapod come to life. The hours and minutes indicators are on rotating discs and the watch features a floating unidirectional bezel that looks like the ring of Saturn. The watch has two crowns, the left crown to wind the watch and the right to set the time.
Enjoy!
