Holy Trinity Perfection, The Vacheron Constantin American 1921 in Platinum
There are some watches out there that really capture your imagination of a time where watchmakers were free to create incredible watches of all shapes and designs. The Vacheron Constantin American 1921 is such a different watch that is captures the imagination of classical watchmaking enthusiasts.
The American 1921 was released at towards the end of 2008 takes its inspiration from a watch that was originally produced in 1919 through the early 1920’s. If Art Deco is not what comes to mind when you look at this watch, not sure what does! The original watch was actually produced in very few quantities, only 12 known examples were produced of the original reference. The original differed slightly as the dial was tilted to the left by 45 degrees instead of the right like in the new version.
The Platinum version of this watch is probably our favourite. Platinium was used heavily in the 1920’s. The cushion form 40mm case is breathtaking, especially with the blued hands and breguet font hour numbers. That, coupled with the interesting dial layout really makes you think of a pocket watch marriage that you have probably seen. The watch runs on the manual wind 4400 AS that of course has an impressive level of finishing. At its price point of around $47,000, you really are getting something different that is steeped in heritage just like the other watches in Vacheron Constantin’s Historique collection.
Enjoy!
